Cape Town - The owner of a tow truck company has been charged with murdering a driver from a rival company in an alleged battle over turf.

Chris Olieslager, owner of Urban Towing and Island Auto Panel, was expected to apply for bail in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Olieslager has been charged with the murder of Linley Summers, 45, who was stabbed to death on June 15 after responding to an accident scene in Maitland around 1pm. He was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital but died on arrival.

Olieslager appeared under heavy police guard in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court for the first time a week ago.

The court heard there were threats on his life and consequently arranged for the police’s task team to guard him while travelling to and from court.

On Monday, Andre Johnson, for Olieslager, told the court that his client wanted to apply for bail. The State is opposing his release on bail.

The hearing began on Monday but was rolled over until Tuesday.
